They havent molted yet, but they gave me a lot of opportunities to test my new diffuser build.gotta make some minor tweaks, but overall I’m quiet happy 🕷️

Dancing Aelurillus v-insignitus male from last spr Dancing Aelurillus v-insignitus male from last spring. It was quite difficult to get the right angle. They were sitting atop a cut down tree and not the soft ground, so I was quite limited on how low of an angle I could get.

They aren’t a really rare species, but due to their contrasty markings quite a nice subject to photograph. In the region I’m from this spider wasn’t known to be here, so finding them was a nice surprise and an adoption to the incredible biodiversity of the Bavarian forest 🤗

Finally… Macro-season has started. And in an unexp Finally… Macro-season has started. And in an unexpected turn of events my first subject was this Aelurillus v-insignitus female. 🕷️

Usually the first macros I take in spring are of snakes, however this was a pleasant surprise to test some modifications on my diffuser 😊

She was sitting in a bit of an awkward angel so it was a bit difficult to stack. This picture was stacked from 80 single images with a very small step rate. Turned out quite well 🙌

Already looking forward to their courtship dance later this year 💃🕺

Back in 2023 when I first encountered this species. I at first thought someone left their trash behind. The colors just looked so out of place 🔵

The day after…

Even on the second day there was a quiet severe display of aurora. You were able to see them with your eyes but just very faintly. 4 secs of exposure seemed to do the trick.

Back to macros for a sec. Before I post the aurora horizontals 🤗 This is an extremely rare species of slime mold and I never was able to get them in this stadium. Slime molds develop rather quickly and the timing needs to be just right if you want a specific stadium of ripeness 🍄🍄‍🟫

A dance for the lady… Mating dance of Aelurillus A dance for the lady…

Mating dance of Aelurillus v-insignitus, a only 5-6mm big species of Jumpingspider. On warm, sunny spring you’ll be able to find them near the forest borders or on clearings. They seem to have an affinity for sandy terrain.

Araneus nordmanni Here is the first of many shots Araneus nordmanni

Here is the first of many shots I got from this beautiful Orbweaver. They are extremely rare, at least in middle Europe. They aren’t very big but also not very small, but due to their cryptic patterns quite hard to find. They have a body length of about 15mm🕸️🕷️

You will rarely see them sitting in the middle of their webs. They use a signal string that runs from the middle of their webs to a secure position on the tree trunk. Hidden away from most predators. However if your lucky you can observe one while building their webs, or if your an early bird you can sometimes get lucky on a cool summer morning and actually find one sitting in the middle of the web. 🕸️

I love the back pattern which in some instances looks like a skul. These really are incredible Spiders 🕸️🕷️💀

In 2025 i was lucky enough to find a quite big population of pseudo scorpions nearby. They aren’t really easy to photograph since they just keep running around. They live underneath leaves, rocks or sticks. Because of all the movement these are all single frames and no stacks.

Polyommatus icarus A quite common butterfly aroun Polyommatus icarus

A quite common butterfly around here, but not that easy to photograph. 🦋They usually keep their wings closed so you don’t see the bright blue upside of them. They are also pretty small with a wingspan of only 25-30mm 🦋
